Efflo confirmed as a smart heal, with a buff!

Note: if my interpretation of the PTR note is incorrect please let me know.

So we just got word that Effloressence is in fact going to be made into a smart heal similar to option #2 that I suggested in my last post. What I didn’t expect though was a noticeable buff to the amount healed. Here’s the official wording:

  • Efflorescence has been redesigned. It creates a healing zone at the feet of a Swiftmend target, but this healing zone now restores health equal to 4/8/12% of the amount healed by Swiftmend to the three most injured targets within 8 yards, every 1 second for 7 seconds. This periodic effect now also benefits from spell haste, but the individual ticks cannot be critical effects.

If we discount critical strikes entirely (looking at haste a little bit later) this is certainly a buff. Right now based on a 17,000 swiftmend, Effloressence heals for 762 a person for a total of 4,572 hp/s on 6 players.

The newer version of Effloressence heals for 12% per person, per second, for 7 seconds. For a 17,000 Swiftmend this is a 2,040 heal on 3 people per second or 6,120 hp/s. (34% increase to the ability’s throughput)

Just working off of a non-crit Swiftmend let’s look at how crit and haste affects the twoversions of Efflo. For the old effloressence, the effective average hp/s of the spell jumps from 4,572 to 5,028 hp/s at 20% crit. For the new Effloressence I am going to make the assumption that it shares the same break points as wild growth, meaning that at 2005 haste we will have 9 ticks of Effloressence. This bumps the total amount healed to 6,120 X 9 = 55,080, or 7,868 hp/s. Powerful for sure, but not not completely out of the realm of possibility. (56% throughput increase).

Note: These numbers are based off of a current Effloressence hitting 6 people. I know that when Effloressence is hitting a MUCH larger quantity of people it would shoot up as high as 5,800 hp/s. The new Effloressence would be approximately a 35% increase in that scenario.

What this does do though, is make the 2005 haste break point much more significant as it will give you the 9th tick of both Wild Growth AND Effloressence! I would think that this will noticeably affect our stat weights for both 10 and 25 man content. This breakpoint increases Effloressences effect by 22%, as opposed to ~10% that a 20% crit rate is boosting it now. This improved scaling does give them some room to tweak the numbers on this new version of Effloressence, but I don’t think they can safely balance it around that breakpoint just yet though I could be wrong.

  1. In 25-man raids, Efflo could heal as little as like 150 or so per person per tick, making the actual healing done pretty much meaningless. Limiting the healing to a small number of targets, but having that healing done be very meaningful, seems like a much better direction for the spell.

    • Couldn’t agree more. This is clearly a meaningful boost to the relevance of the spell as well as a fairly significant buff to its throughput.

Overall this is a two thumbs up situation in my book!

  4. I’m very excited about this change as it seems like a good increase in its usefullness. So 1 question now though, do you think that this change makes effloressence almost mandatory (specifically vs. natures bounty which is what many people dropped it for)?

    • Honestly right now I have both and I haven’t had any major issues. I know Nature’s Bounty is not fantastic, but it has some situational use. I may make adjustments to my spec down the road switching to a more throughput oriented spec taking Genesis and the like.

Given how much more powerful the ability is, and the fact it will produce less “wasted” healing I would think it creeps closer to being a mandatory talent. The way it will work after the change makes it stronger for all group/raid sizes as well. Ultimately it will be a choice made by the player but I will continue to advocate taking the talent.
